St. Charles National Bank

Established in 1902, the St. Charles National Bank moved to this building in 1926. Colonel Edward J. Baker, who was director of the bank, bought and tore down the building which stood on the property. In its place he erected the Classical Revival marble building for $200,000. At this time he also bought the former Haines Mill property which would soon become the site of Hotel Baker. The building's exterior has ionic columns which flank the entrance. Over the years the building has housed various banking companies, most recently Old Kent Bank.
