Here, Doctor Dolittle bets a bullfight promoter that if he wins in the bullring, all bullfights will end. He gets into the ring with 5 bulls, whom he has already talked to, and who have agreed to cooperate, and Dr. Doolittle wins. The voyagers are able to buy supplies, and continue on their adventures, until they hit the next snag. Will they make it to Spidermonkey Island? Will they ever make it home? This book is one of many Doctor Dolittle books. It won the Newbery Medal in 1923.

The story begins with Dwight, Addie's ex-stepfather, driving Addie and her mom to their new home. A trailer in the middle of the city under the train tracks was not what they expected. Mommers is an irresponsible parent that only thinks of herself and has made some bad choices. Dwight has custody of Addie's two half sisters and he truly cares for her well being. Addie is caught between the chaotic world of her mother and wanting a normal life. She finds friendships, deals with loss, and accepts that her mother will never change.
