The Bluebonnet Girl by Michael Lind is a retelling of the original story, An Indian Legend of the Bluebonnet. In this beautifully told story, a little girl sacrifices her little doll with a blue headdress, her prized possession, to end the drought on the prairie to save her people. Due to her selflessness and willingness to do what no one else in her Comanche tribe was willing to do, give up something that was truly precious, she was rewarded with an end to the drought and a field of bluebonnets. This story engages the reader with its beautiful illustrations and verse.
