Experience all the fun and excitement of LEGOLAND® right here at your Library. LEGO® experts will conduct each workshop. Children through age seven must be accompanied by an adult. Students who have completed grades 2–8 may attend without an adult.

Pablo Picasso Workshop

Using Chicago Daley Center’s Picasso sculpture as a starting point, students will be introduced to the artistic possibilities of creating their own unique, original sculptures. Mathematics will be used to determine how to create a large scale model of their original sculpture. REGISTER

Become a Red Cross certified babysitter. Training will cover all aspects of babysitter responsibilities and includes a Babysitter Training set which features valuable resources – handbook, emergency reference guide, CD-ROM with templates, organizer, activities and more. Students must attend the entire training workshop and successfully pass all observable skills to earn and receive First Aid certification valid for three years, CPR certification valid for one year and babysitter certification.
Minimum of 8 / maximum of 10 students.
Students living outside the Library District may register beginning 5/28 for June and 7/29 for August for $65.
Registration Requirements:
A completed babysitter application form, including student and parent signatures, is due at registration. Form is available at the ASK ME Desk and online. In-person registration only.
Full payment (cash or check payable to St. Charles Public Library) is required to register or to add your name to the waiting list. Cancellations must be made by noon on Friday, June 7 for June 11, noon on Monday, June 17 for June 19, or noon on Thursday,
August 8 for August 12 workshops. Late cancellations or no-shows will result in loss of fee. In the event that a student on the waiting list is not called to attend, a refund will be mailed.
Waiting List – Up to two applications will be accepted per training session. All applicants will be contacted after the cancellation deadline regarding registration status.

Book Buddies is a great way to have fun with books. Young readers will be paired with middle school students to read aloud to each other, play literacy-focused games and talk about books. This program will provide literacy enrichment and promote reading as fun and entertaining.
Parents: The focus is on book sharing rather than tutoring. To accommodate as many students as possible, a student may register for three dates. Remember to call the ASK ME Desk at least 24 hours before the time you are registered if you are unable to attend. Drop-in participation may be possible due to cancellations. Caldecott Award 75th Anniversary Celebration G
It’s a month-long celebration of the most distinguished American picture books for children. The Caldecott Medal, named in honor of nineteenth century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott, is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.

Karen G. Russell Memorial Student Lecture Series G
In memory of Karen G. Russell, the William Russell family has established a lecture series for students. Karen’s many passions included reading, art, history and gardening. This lecture series enables the Library to bring her passions to the students of our community. Each February and July, Chicago area experts, artists, authors and others will introduce students to their art, craft or profession by providing an interactive experience.

Students will learn the importance of the most effective and well-mannered ways to communicate with others to improve their relationships with their friends and family. Presentation skills, letter writing, thank you notes, addressing envelopes, email, how to properly place and answer telephone calls and cell phone etiquette all will be covered. Students who send us a letter about a favorite book or a postcard from a vacation spot will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate. Details at program. Use the Smartest Card – your Library Card – to receive free admission or a special discount at unique Chicago area cultural destinations. Passes are available on a first–come basis each week.
